      Attendees will discover resources for self-study of the Asian American experience as well as inclusive K-2 resources for teaching about Asian American history, culture, & identity.

    • Grade level 3-5: Nancy Lenihan/ Patty Shelton

      This session will address some local history of racial bias toward Asian Americans and their resilience to persevere and succeed despite those challenges. Resources will be provided for adult education about the Asian experience

    • Grade level 6-8: Mary Roberts

      Agency in Asian and Asian American Literature for the 6-8 Classroom.

Conference Topics

- Authentic voices shared by authors in person and in books

- Stories and experiences of all peoples and communities in inclusive instructional practice

Attendees will critically consider how to elevate narratives and cultural identities. We’ll also explore how we can listen to and respect what is valued by each other and in our communities.

The annual Washington State Council for the Social Studies K-8 Conference is a one-day professional development opportunity for all teachers of any of the social studies subjects.
